Melissa Gilbert Trades Hollywood for a Quiet Life in the Catskills
Melissa Gilbert, best known for her role as Laura Ingalls on "Little House on the Prairie," has traded the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for a peaceful life in the Catskills with her husband, Timothy Busfield.
Their journey to their dream home wasn't easy. In 2018, they bought a fixer-upper cottage complete with mice, mold, and no working heat or plumbing. But the couple saw the potential and poured their love and effort into transforming the abandoned house.
Gilbert says this project was a turning point for her. In the past, she dictated how her home looked, but this time, they tackled it together. They removed unwanted décor, added personal touches, and even incorporated quirky elements like Donald Duck figurines.
Life on their 14-acre property is a far cry from the Hollywood spotlight. Their days revolve around chores like tending to their garden, feeding their chickens and dogs, and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature.
While there were initial challenges adjusting to this new lifestyle, Gilbert now cherishes the peace and quiet. She starts her mornings with a cup of tea, followed by farm chores, and enjoys the evenings spent with her husband.
One of the biggest adjustments for Gilbert was leaving her family behind in Los Angeles. However, the trade-off has been a rekindled love for the outdoors and a newfound appreciation for a simpler life.
Despite the initial difficulties, their perseverance has paid off. The couple has created a haven in the Catskills, a place where they can relax, reconnect with nature, and enjoy their life together.
