Once named "Sexiest Man Alive," Mark Harmon, best known for his iconic portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, looks as fit as ever at 72, recently caught on camera doing some heavy lifting.
In a rare sighting last week, the notoriously private Harmon showed off his impressive physique as he effortlessly hoisted two hefty water jugs - each weighing at least 42 pounds - before returning to his Pacific Palisades home. Dressed casually in a green shirt, blue jeans, and work boots, the actor lives a quiet life with his wife of 37 years, "Mork & Mindy" actress Pam Dawber.
In another exclusive photo set, Harmon was seen dressed in a bright red athletic quarter-zip top while collecting his mail.
Harmon bid farewell to his beloved character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in an emotional exit from NCIS in 2021. Addressing his departure, he expressed his appreciation for portraying Agent Gibbs for over two decades.
"What has always drawn me here is the character I play and to keep it fresh and challenging," said the Emmy Award-nominated actor in 2022. "Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK."
This week, sources revealed that to keep Harmon happy on the show, the network had to fire co-creator Donald P. Bellisario four years after the show premiered in 2003. According to E News, the NCIS cast, including Harmon, claimed that Bellisario's toxic work environment significantly hindered filming.
Harmon allegedly nearly left NCIS after just four seasons due to Bellisario's micromanagement and the stressful work environment, which he said impacted his personal life. He cited grueling hours and difficult conditions, claiming Bellisario's insistence on last-minute script changes made it challenging for the cast to memorize lines.
There were rumors that Harmon wouldn't return for the 19th season, but he reportedly did so because CBS might not have renewed the show otherwise.
NCIS was a spin-off of CBS' "JAG," both created by Bellisario, which ran for 10 seasons between 1995 and 2005. NCIS itself spawned several spin-offs: NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawaii.
