Pony the Puppy: A Potential Recasting?
In the vacation episodes of Virgin River, Jack gave Mel a puppy named Pony. Originally, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith thought they could use the same puppy to represent an older version of Pony, since there will be a time jump in season six.
However, due to the Hollywood strikes, filming was significantly delayed… which means that Pony the puppy may not fit into the season six time jump after all.
Patrick told TVLine, “I had always anticipated that there would be a time jump after the holidays when we moved on to Season 6, so we wanted to let the dog age naturally when we went back into production. But we didn’t factor in the five-month strike. So I don’t know where Pony is now in his maturation process. I hope we don’t have to recast the role, but we might have to.”
