The fate of Kevin Costner's John Dutton in 'Yellowstone' has finally been revealed, leaving fans heartbroken.
In the long-awaited second half of Season 5, which premiered on Sunday, viewers were left reeling as they discovered that the Dutton patriarch had tragically passed away. The episode opens with the shocking revelation that John Dutton had succumbed to a gunshot wound. Initially, it's believed that he died by his own hand, but a sinister plot soon emerges.
It's later uncovered that Dutton was actually murdered as part of a cunning scheme orchestrated by Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), who is romantically entangled with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).
This dramatic turn of events marks the end of an era for 'Yellowstone', as Costner, who played the iconic role for five seasons, had announced his departure from the show in June.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Costner explained that his commitments to his upcoming multi-part film series, 'Horizon: An American Saga', prevented him from continuing with 'Yellowstone'.

Adding to the intrigue, Costner revealed in an interview on Sirius XM's 'The Michael Smerconish Program' that he was unaware of the episode's airing over the weekend and had only learned about the specifics of his character's demise that morning.
He admitted that he hasn't seen the episode and doesn't feel compelled to do so after learning about the nature of Dutton's death. "That's their business," he stated, reflecting on his time on the show. "I gave it five seasons – I didn't even know I was going to do it that long. There were a couple of times where I talked about possible endings for myself."
The loss of Costner's character has sent shockwaves through the 'Yellowstone' fandom, with many taking to social media to express their grief and discuss the implications of his departure.
Some cast members have also shared their thoughts on the significant event. Luke Grimes, who portrays Kayce Dutton, shared with The Independent, "It's hard to imagine the show without him. But that's always where the show was headed. It was, can these kids do it without him?"

With John Dutton's absence, the future of the Dutton family and the Yellowstone ranch hangs in the balance, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what unfolds next in this gripping saga.
